Surgery developed a comprehensive web tools to improve surgical experiences and the quality of surgical procedures, while supporting training for surgical students and instructors.
Surgery is a digital platform designed for surgeons, medical students, and educators to support both clinical practice and surgical education. The system allows users to store patient records and surgical videos, generate 3D models from CT and MRI scans, and access structured libraries of medical cases and pathologies. It also includestools for creating educational materials and enables the use ofaugmented reality to assist visualization and learning in real surgical environments.
My Role
Position and responsibilities. As a UX/UI & Product Designer, I worked across the entire product lifecycle – from research and concept to delivery and iteration, collaborating with the client (a surgeon), PM, BA, developers, QA, and another designer.
Design system ownership. Built and maintained the platform’s design system with documentation, reusable components, and updates to ensure UI consistency, scalability, and smooth developer handoff.
Research and ideation. Led competitive research, identified opportunities, and co-facilitated workshops with stakeholders to shape hypotheses and define product direction.
Design Process
User research and validation. Conducted usability testing with surgeons using Figma prototypes, gathering real-time feedback from scenario-based tasks to guide design improvements.
Prototyping and collaboration. Created mid- and high-fidelity prototypes for core features (video tools, annotations, 3D viewer, AR interface) in two-week sprints, collaborating closely with developers for feasibility and alignment.
AR-specific testing. Analyzed surgeon HoloLens session recordings to identify interaction issues and refine gestures, layout, and user flow in the AR space.
Metrics
Improved user task completion time by simplifying dashboard layout and optimizing content hierarchy (estimated 30% faster access to key functions).
Designed and documented a responsive UI system, resulting in smoother developer implementation and ~50% reuse of components across views.
Collaborated with stakeholders in healthcare to validate UX decisions and ensure alignment with medical compliance standards.
